The Scottish Government's Economist Group seeks to promote awareness of economics in secondary schools as part of this academic year. The motivating factor behind these efforts is to increase diversity within the profession, as economists are currently disproportionately male and privately educated.
Our career insight sessions aim to last for a length of 40-50 minutes and could be tailored to complement subject curriculums. Our sessions focus on promoting awareness of economics through interactive games, as well as routes to becoming an economist. Our representatives would also cover their personal career paths and learned experiences, whilst also covering routes into the profession, Civil Service, and the world of work more generally.
Our sessions are pitched at those pupils with either (a) a National 5 qualification in Mathematics or (b) an interest in pursuing higher education. However, we are open to notifications of interest beyond these two demographics!
