
Eligible S5 pupils can undertake research projects for 2 weeks over the summer in many locations across Scotland. Set by host organisations, projects range from practical experiments to data analysis, literature reviews, development of outreach resources. The programme spans a broad spectrum of STEM related subjects, including finance, social sciences and geography.
Who can participate? S5 pupil from disadvantaged backgrounds, first in their family to go to university, ethnic minorities or from rural/remote locations.
Length of placement: 2 (or 3 if required) weeks
When: During the school summer holidays – face to face, hybrid or online
Outputs: Scientific or technical report and poster, showcased at a Celebration Event in September. Pupils can work towards a STEM Leader 7 Award to improve their leadership skills and qualities whilst on placement.
Cost: Free. Pupils are supported with travel expenses and can receive bursary funding if eligible.
