Scotland’s leaders: Making sense of politics

Work Inspiration and Preparation Provided by The Royal Society of Edinburgh

With the 2026 Scottish Parliament election on the horizon, this is a unique opportunity for young people to explore the kind of politics they want to see in Scotland and to put their voices at the heart of the conversation.

This session invites pupils to think critically about key political issues affecting their lives, both locally and nationally. They’ll hear directly from Scotland’s party leaders, gain insights into how political decisions are made, and explore how to navigate party campaigns, manifestos, and media messaging.

We’ll also look at what responsible and ethical campaigning means in today’s world and how to spot misinformation when it appears.

Whether your pupils are already engaged in politics or just beginning to make sense of it all, this session aims to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and equip them with the tools to take an active role in shaping Scotland’s future.
